HOSTING GUIDELINES

1.     Check your references. Not all trivia books have been fact-checked.

2.     Keep your questions to no more than two sentences; preferably one.

3.     Avoid convoluted sentences.  Make them easy to read.

4.     Avoid dates. No one remembers dates.

5.     Avoid obscure questions.  You don’t want to stump your participants
-- you want to challenge their memories.  Ask yourself ‘Would at least
one or two people know this?’ If not, don’t include it in your quiz.  If
you’re having to hint at more than a couple of questions in your quiz,
 it’s too hard.

6.     Avoid number questions if you can’t follow a fast-moving screen.
Number questions tend to bring lots and lots of willy-nilly guesses.

7.      Don’t insult your players’ intelligence if they don’t know something.
We have some of the brightest people on the internet playing on this
  site.

8.     Saturday quizzes should be global in perspective. Global does not
mean throwing an occasional bone to UK players.  ALL questions
should be on subjects that are international in scope such as
astronomy, world history, mythology, disease, the human body,
animals, art, foreign words and phrases, explorers, ethnic foods,
geology, science, insects, inventors, classic literature, mathematics,
world leaders, world religions, world money and finance, and
Shakespeare. Don’t assume the entire world knows American pop
 culture or American sports.

9.      You should have the latest java downloaded and be able to copy
and paste your questions before hosting. Typing it all out takes too
much time. You may practice in the chat room at any time during the
  day.

10     SCORING:  For
intermediate trivia games, when there are one to four
players, one point is given to the first answer. When there are 5
to 9 players, one point is given to the first two answers.  When there
are 10 - 14 players, one point is given to the first three answers, and
  so forth.  For 10:00
difficult trivia, when there are fewer than ten
players, the  first three answers are awarded points on a gradated
scale of 3, 2, and 1.  When there are at least fifteen players but less
than twenty, the first four answers are awarded points on a gradated
scale of 4, 3, 2 and 1. When there are 20 or more players, the first five
answers are awarded points on a gradated scaled of 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
